How To Identify A Speed Addiction

Drugs like amphetamines and speed have a higher addiction profile than other drugs.  The people most at risk of developing an addiction are those with addictive personalities.  However, others may also become addicted if they use these drugs regularly.

When people first start taking uppers they may enjoy their experience.  If so, they will be tempted to try the drug again.  Eventually their body will become accustomed to having speed, meth and/or uppers in their system.

When this happens, people start to show the signs of addiction.  Listed below are some of the signs and symptoms of street drug addiction.

-  Withdrawal symptoms.  These occur when the addict stops taking the drugs their body is so reliant on.  Some of the more unpleasant symptoms of withdrawal are fever, sweating, anxiety, tremors and pain.

-  Sudden changes in behavior.

-  Mood swings.  For instance being grumpy and then suddenly becoming happy.

-  Withdrawal from friends, family members and romantic relationships.

-  A drop in personal grooming standards.

-  Lack of interest in hobbies and other activities the addict once enjoyed.

-  Unusual sleep patterns.

-  Red and/or glassy eyes.

-  Missing money.

When somebody notices a loved one is displaying the symptoms of addiction, they must first make sure that they are correct.  If so, they can approach their loved one and tell them that they have their love and support.  Sometimes this is all an addict needs to admit that they need help.

Once an addict has chosen to seek help they can choose one of the many treatment options available.  If they have access to large funds, they may be able to afford an inpatient program.   An alternative to this is getting out-patient therapy or joining a free group such as the well-known Narcotics Anonymous.
